Marin County’s median household income is $149,091, according to the Census Bureau’s 2020–2024 American Community Survey (in 2024 dollars). Per capita income is $93,920.
The single-year 2024 survey put the median at $147,017. That is about 1.5 times the California median and nearly double the U.S. median.
Incomes vary widely within the county. By ZIP code, the median ranges from $78,281 in Inverness to the Census reporting cap of $250,001 in Ross. Belvedere and Tiburon (94920) come in at $246,045, Mill Valley (94941) at $209,870, and central San Rafael (94901) at $115,330.
About 9.9% of residents live below the poverty line, a reminder that Marin’s averages hide real economic diversity.
Note that median household income is not the same as area median income (AMI), which is used for affordable-housing eligibility. AMI is based on HUD’s family income figure for the San Francisco metro area and is considerably higher.
